IT Technician

The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting and the overall efficient operation of the company’s IT equipment, systems, network and services.  The IT Supervisor will assign specific areas of responsibility to the IT Technician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- other duties may be assigned:

  • Maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of internal IT systems and equipment, related hardware and software; Responsible for the integrity and security of these services and systems;
  • Responsible for installing, troubleshooting and repairing in-house computer hardware and software;
  • Works with the Network Operations Manager, IT Supervisor and other staff and on all issues affecting the company’s IT systems; Researches and makes recommendations regarding the hardware and software of these systems;
  • May assist in annual budget preparation;
  • Must stay abreast of industry changes that impact our IT operations; Ensures compliance with all industry standards, regulations and company policies;
  • Assists with administering the company’s cell phone program;
  • Assists with maintaining department’s inventory levels and returns, as well as researching and ordering products, as needed and as assigned.

Position and advancement within the wage range established for this position are dependent upon performance and the scope of the duties and responsibilities assigned. 

Personnel Specifications

Education/Experience

Computer Science or similar technical degree, or similar related training.  Three or more years of related experience in the installation and repair of computer related products and services, as well as network administration.  Experience with IP related services desired.  An interest and desire to further enhance education level to keep up with technology advancements.

Job Knowledge

A firm working knowledge of computers, computer networking and the Internet. Trouble shooting background in consumer electronics and computers.  Basic knowledge in use of electronic drawings/schematics to isolate problems when trouble shooting.

Related Skills

Uses hand and power tools.  Physically exerting workload at times.  Must have strong customer service skills, ability to work independently and be a team player.  Respond to customers and community to ensure positive public relations and to retain customer identification with the system.  Able to work under and handle stressful periods when meeting deadlines.  Must recognize that one of the most important performance areas in which the Company functions is public and customer relations; to insure continued growth and success of the Company, the best possible courteous and friendly relationship with customers must be maintained.  Answers customer inquiries in an informal polite manner and refers unanswered questions to the appropriate supervisory personnel.

Additional Requirements

The IT Technician may be required to participate in the On-Call & Weekend Duty rotation.  This position may also require occasional overtime.

Position Relationships

The IT Technician reports to the IT Supervisor.

Internal/External

Maintains close relationship with all departments.  Works with customers as needed to resolve service issues; Works with manufacturers, suppliers and vendors in sourcing and researching Internet related products. 

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Computer Science degree or similar specialized training;
  • Network engineering and design experience;
  • IP applications experience;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Routine short term planning and occasional assumption of authority;
  • Productive responsible conduct;
  • Professional appearance and manner;
  • Ability to work and communicate well with others;
  • Strong computer and networking career commitment;
  • Able to work with little or no supervision;
  • Imaginative effort to solve customer and company problems.
